Barbara Nicholls RWS

Barbara Nicholls lives and works from studios in London and Bollington, The Peak District. Nicholls studied at Goldsmiths College for a BA Fine Art (1982-86), University of East London MFA (1996-98) and Doctorate in Fine Art (2000-06).

 

Nicholls’ watercolour works emerge by manipulating the behaviour of pigment in ever-increasing quantities of water. Their production remains consistent with her earlier work where she has stitched, drawn, cut, and built. She focuses on archaeological, architectural, geological and other sites which are of significance to her- currently The Peak District.

 

She has had her work widely exhibited in public museums, commercial galleries and artist led spaces. She has held several residencies internationally, in the UK, Germany, The Netherlands, Australia, and Brazil. She has also been the recipient of a number of bursaries and awards. Her work is held in the collection of Museum Kurhaus Kleve Germany, The New Art Gallery Walsall UK, Kaiser Willhelm Museum, Germany and private collections in UK, France, USA, Australia and Iran.

 

She has taught Fine Art at numerous Art Schools over the last 25 years including Glasgow School of Art, The University of the Arts, Turps Banana, Oxford Brookes University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Reading University, Brunel University.
