In her paintings Jill is trying to coax a new image into existence - to get a response from the painting itself. She needs to have a conversation, a relationship with the marks, colours and lines. Drawing is very important to her. Looking and looking and drawing and drawing are the best ways to see how a flower is attached to a stem, how many petals it has, or how a building works - how many windows and chimneys. Once she has this information she can simplify, change and adapt it to create a new image.
