Caroline tends to work in series. They are usually driven and held together by a single idea, of place or a mood, and she will work through the idea until she feels she has exhausted it. It is often to do with the coast around Britain, both offshore and onshore, and almost always with the marks left by man - whether in the shape of the land on the structures built into it or rising up from the sea itself. Her aim is to achieve a satisfactory resolution of the tension between the organisation of the picture surface and the imagery illustrated.
