Rika’s work is inspired by traces from the past: fossils, ruins and relics. By collecting fragments, categorizing pieces and imagining missing parts, her works explore the woven history of the earth.
Rika was born and grew up in Tokyo. Her interest in the origins of life began in childhood. Curiosity about how life started led her to study chemistry at university. On moving to the UK she began to develop her career as an artist. She has an MA, Fine Art Printmaking from the Royal College of Art, London. Her works have been shown in various exhibitions including the RA Summer Exhibition and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
