Julie's paintings have emerged from observations of natural forms and places she frequently visits surrounding her studio in St Ives. Her abstract images are derived from the external triggers of the Cornish landscape. A direct expression through colour, form and line conveying experience and sense of place.
With the counterpoints of land, ever changing sea and light, works have evolved from various starting points, the incidental, the in between, junctions and high viewpoints, adjusting the painting continually, assembling the rhythmic forms in a personal response to the landscape. Julie attended Central Saint Martins College of Art in London exploring colour interaction and subjective use of colour and Insight School of Art in London. She returned to Saint Martins exploring collage as a means of articulating form as inspiration for new ideas and imagery.
