Caroline Macey RE

After a career in arts education and over twenty five years as a practising artist, Caroline moved

from London in 2002 to set up a printmaking studio and life drawing classes in Ore village on the edge of Hastings, East Sussex. Her art has always been expressed through a love of the study of the figure and how to incorporate this knowledge into complex, interwoven narrative works.

The technique she has developed using Sankakuto cutting tools on Japanese block allows her to capture the woodcut-like intimacy of a miniature in its use of line, with the big, bold immediacy of starkly printed black on white lino. The tales she tells range from personal (the loss of a friend to addiction in 'Zombie'), to the political ('Rocking...' and 'Snakes....') and back to the personal ('Mothers and Daughters'.) but are informed by careful research and attention to detail.

Caroline's inspiration comes through the working and reworking of images, exploring the

imagined and real obsessions that define the structure of an often disturbing society.

These are then realised using the graphic dynamics of relief printing, revealed amid an

intricate fretwork of surface pattern and design.
