Meet the Artist: with Julia Midgley RWS RE & Wendy Jacob RWS

Julia Midgley RWS RE is a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Show, and is the recipient of national awards for drawing, painting and printmaking.

 Direct observational drawing provides the bedrock for her practice, her sketchbook pages reveal drawn snapshots of curiousities and direct observations of live action. Her personal work often refers to horses and art history.

Wendy Jacob RWS grew up and went to art school in London. She was an illustrator for many years, working for national newspapers, magazines, advertising and publishing.

Wendy's usual medium is gouache, and her subject is landscape and still life.  In her practice defined shapes are brought together using strong flat colour and line to create scenes where decorative qualities are favoured over realism.

 Both artists will be in the gallery for the afternoon to discuss their work and answer your questions about their practice!
